Updated Information on Visa Credit Card Fraud Event – Attempted Charges from Paris, France

Dear Members,

We wanted to provide an update on the Visa fraud from March 25, 2020. We have been in constant communication with Visa’s Fraud Department and are pleased to report that the fraud was detected, stopped and no member information was compromised. We have blocked all affected cards and are ordering new Visa Credit Cards for those members.

Members Impacted
A very small number of cards were impacted – approximately 250.

Fraudulent Charges Were Caught & Stopped
Visa’s fraud detection system worked extremely well – the fraudulent charges were detected and stopped from posting to the accounts. Members were then contacted via text and phone call and asked to verify if the charge was legitimate or not.

No Member Information Was Compromised
We have reviewed the information that came in for the fraudulent charges and have verified that the fraudsters did not submit name, address, card expiration, or card CVV with the fraudulent transaction. We can assure you that no personal information was stolen or compromised as a result of this event.

Random Attack
The Visa Fraud Department also determined that this was a “random attack” in which the fraudsters selected a series of numbers in the hopes of finding active accounts to charge.

Imperative for COPFCU to Have Your Best Contact Number
As a reminder to all members, it is imperative that we have your best contact number on file. A mobile phone number is best and provides the fastest means of communicating with you (via text or call). Please log on to our Online or Mobile Banking or call us to verify that we have your best contact number listed.

If you were impacted by this event and have questions, please call us. If you were not impacted by this event, we ask that you refrain from calling us at this time. Due to COVID-19 Coronavirus, we are working with a limited staff on any given day and we want to remain available for those impacted by this event or those needing immediate assistance.

As always, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation – and your continued loyalty and support – throughout this unprecedented event.
